Thousands of fans lined the streets for the US premiere of Thor: The Dark World at the El Capitan theater in Hollywood.

Marvel's popular character, Thor, the Mighty Avenger returns in "The Dark World", hammer in hand, to save the universe.

Chris Hemsworth stars as Thor alongside fellow cast members Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston and Anthony Hopkins.

On the red carpet, Kat Dennings looked amazing in her elegant red embroidered ensemble. Jaime Alexander radiated in her bold, yet classy black and sheer gown. Executive producer and comic book legend Stan Lee beamed with joy as he walked the carpet in celebration of yet another of his creations coming to life on film.

Tom Hiddleston, who plays Loki in the film, walked the carpet looking dapper in his classic suit and tie. Fellow castmate Zachary Levi was all smiles as he waved to the fans and made his way to the theater. Nathan Fillion also made an appearance and shared some laughs on the carpet with pals Zachary and Tom.

Fan favorite Michael Rooker checked out the new 2014 Harley Davidson motorcycles on the carpet while waving to fans and taking photos. Rooker is best known for his recent stint as Merle on "The Walking Dead".

In true Disney style, Hollywood Blvd was closed for the premiere at the El Capitan theater. The historic El Capitan theater is a Disney exclusive that routinely hosts world premieres, special events and even live stage shows.

Opening in 1926, the El Capitan theater was known as "Hollywood's First Home of Spoken Drama" and has been certified as a national historic site.

Directed by Alan Taylor, Thor: The Dark World opens in theaters on Friday November 8th and is rated PG-13.
